Dr. Bogomir Kuhar deserves the gratitude of the pro-life movement in the USA. He calculated how many deaths occur in the US by way of abortifacient contraceptives.
His booklet is titled, Infant Homicides through Contraceptives. I highly recommend you pick up a copy!
Dr. Kuhar, a clinical and consultant pharmacist himself with decades of experience, is a member of the organization Pharmacists for Life International. He does not sell contraception, much less abortifacient contraceptives at his independent pharmacy he runs.
HOW ABORTIFACIENT CONTRACEPTIVES WORK
In his booklet Dr. Kuhar explains the methodology different abortifacient contraceptives utilize in order to prevent a baby from developing in the womb of a mother. He describes the three-fold attack the birth control pill and other oral contraceptives take to the otherwise-working-properly reproductive system of a woman.
“The Pill,” as it has been called for so long, has three functions it can do to prevent human life from growing. First, it attempts to chemically prevent the woman from releasing any ovums (or eggs) from her ovaries. If she does not release an ovum, then there is nothing there for sperm to find, and so pregnancy is prevented.
The second method is to disrupt the sperm’s path within the uterus and up the fallopian tubes. If the sperm never can reach an ovum, then conception can never occur. Thus, pregnancy is again prevented.
The third and final function of birth control pills is how we can label them abortifacient contraceptives. If conception (aka fertilization) occurs, despite the contracepting woman’s best efforts of using the Pill, the death of the developing baby can still be brought about. This is due to the Pill’s mechanism of disrupting the lining inside the uterus so as to starve the days-old child to death.
If left alone the uterus would naturally develop a lush, nutrient-rich lining inside the uterine wall for the baby to attach to feed the baby for the next nine months. Thus, the Pill kills.
Birth control pills are far from the only abortifacient contraceptives sold in America. Dr. Kuhar goes into detail on numerous other kinds in his booklet, including the IUD. The Intrauterine Device, for instance, does nothing to prevent implantation, but instead works solely by way of the third method described above. It purposely disturbs the uterine lining so as to prevent implantation and the development of the unborn child.
HOW MANY DEATHS OCCUR BY ABORTIFACIENT CONTRACEPTIVES?
In his booklet Dr. Kuhar uses estimates of data gathered by the US government’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Alan Guttmacher Institute—a research arm of Planned Parenthood, with the latter being the largest abortion provider in the nation. The data sets come from 1994 and they approximate that 1,300,000 surgical abortions occurred in the US that year alone.
Dr. Kuhar goes into some detail explaining his methodology in his computations, and he breaks down the numbers. Here are his findings, by way of very conservative estimates:
>”Summing up the above figures brings a grand total of 7,905,000 to 13,025,000 chemical [abortifacient contraceptives], mechanical [abortifacient devices, such as the IUD] and surgical abortions in the USA annually.”
>”Extrapolating our findings above from 1973 [through 1994]—the year of legalization of abortion on demand in all 50 states—a total of 197,625,000 to 325,625,000 chemical, mechanical and surgical abortions have wiped out the equivalent of the entire US population, more or less.”
Using that same ratio, this means that abortifacient contraceptives killed anywhere from five to nine times as many preborn babies as surgical abortion alone in the US during the mid-1990’s!
To put that another way, for every baby lost to surgical abortion in the US, we lost five to nine more babies to abortifacient contraceptives!
Estimates vary as to how many surgical abortions occur in the US in our present decade. The Guttmacher Institute itself estimates about 926,200 induced abortions occurred in the US in 2014.
If we applied that same conversion rate to this most-recent estimate of surgical abortions, it means we are losing anywhere from 4,631,000 to 8,335,800 unborn babies each year in the US to abortifacient contraceptives.
That said, though, the rate of contraceptive use has gone up since the 1990’s. So, while the pro-life movement rightfully celebrates the rate of surgical abortions going down year after year, the total number of babies dying prior to birth remains just as high, if not higher. In place of surgical abortion, so-called “emergency contraception,” RU-486, and other abortion inducing drugs are claiming untold millions of unborn lives.
I would be interested to read an updated approximation based on statistical estimates from this decade. Maybe Dr. Kuhar or someone else can take a shot at compiling those numbers. And perhaps I will take a stab at running some crude numbers in a future blog post.
Still, the fact remains that abortifacient contraception joins surgical abortion as a silent murderer for millions of unborn children every year. And yet, hardly anyone in the pro-life movement mentions these statistics or even knows the horrifying enormity of death at hand.
Dr. Kuhar did us a service by conducting his research when he did. Heaven, help us. For, it appears hardly anyone has paid any attention to the path of destruction he has identified for us all to see.
What do you make of the numbers?
