Can you give an example of ageism?
Ageism is simply discrimination against someone due to their age.
Examples you might think of are employers not hiring a senior citizen, thinking they don’t want a mother or father figure in the office. Or refusing to buy a product because its salesman has gray hair and is hard of hearing.
Usually when you think of an example of ageism, you think of discrimination against the elderly, right?
Well, so did I. Until I attended a talk recently by pro-life speaker, Stephanie Gray.
AN IRONICALLY-GUILTY PARTY
Gray recounted a conversation she had with a full-blown radical feminist.
Now, what do you think of, when you think about modern feminism?
Misandry, no doubt, right? (The hatred of males.)
Though that discrimination is real, it is not the discrimination Gray pointed out to me for the first time.
You may also think of the feminists’ supposed goal to end all discrimination. Especially, they want to eradicate discrimination against females.
With this broad goal of ending all discrimination, Gray knew this feminist would claim to not be discriminatory against anyone, ever.
The poor woman was at a loss, Gray reports, when Gray pointed out the woman’s hypocrisy.
The pro-life speaker accused the feminist of committing discrimination. Gray said the woman’s staunch support of abortion was an example of ageism.
At first the woman did not understand. So Gray says she had to explain.
Pro-life speaker, Gray showed the woman that she, the radical feminist supported some people being able to end the lives of other people. The ones who got to decide the others had to die are always older.
In other words, modern, radical feminists commit age discrimination by saying older people can kill younger people.
Gray says the woman admitted she had to rethink her support of the dismemberment of the unborn. She never thought of abortion in that way before.
I wish I had thought of this argument myself. But I have to give credit where it is due.
Well done, Miss Gray, well done.
What do you make of abortion serving as an example of ageism?
