Think back to March 2008. Remember hearing about dumpster babies?
That is, do you recall the international headlines made back then involving a scandal near Detroit, Michigan involving an abortionist?
Aborted babies were found in the dumpster behind an abortion mill in Lathrup Village, Michigan.
The abortion mill was run by “Doctor” Alberto Hodari.
Well, my wife and I were the ones who made the discovery.
WHY DID WE LOOK IN THE ABORTIONIST’S DUMPSTER?
At the time, my wife (Milissa) and I were engaged. We were also on the leadership team running the 40 Days For Life campaign outside the Womancare abortion mill in Lathrup Village, Michigan.
Most every weekday night we braved the winter elements to walk laps around the abortion mill, praying the Rosary.
Milissa and I felt inspired by a talk given by Dr. Monica Miller where she told about doing dumpster raids. She and her husband had retrieved countless babies from the trash over the years outside abortion centers. She would go on to write a book about her experiences, titled Abandoned: The Untold Story of the Abortion Wars.
As well, Milissa had gone to listen to a talk by the abortionist at this Lathrup Village Womancare abortion mill.
Hodari spoke at Wayne State University on November 8, 2007. This is a man who has killed two women by injuries sustained by his abortion procedure. He also has been accused of performing abortions on underage girls, without parental consent.
At the talk Hodari claimed he has “a license to lie” to his patients. Click here for a video of the man speaking that day.
Amazing, is it not?
Not on that video, but elsewhere in his talk, he told his audience he did not bother to wash his hands between surgeries.
Seeing this man willing to make these admissions in public, we were confident he did not run a clean clinic. We decided to investigate the dumpster behind his abortion mill there in Lathrup Village.
WHAT DID WE FIND?
Milissa and I removed the trash from the dumpster behind Hodari’s clinic three weeks in a row in February 2008. On the third investigation, we found aborted babies, likely 10 to 12 weeks in gestation.
I will now quote for you a portion of the police report I wrote for Lathrup Village Sergeant, Vincent Lynch:
“Milissa and I [Kevin] began investigating the dumpster behind the Womancare facility Friday, February 8, 2008.
“What we found that Friday were patient records and open condom wrappers.
“By looking through these documents we learned patients’ names, phone numbers, addresses, ages, how long their pregnancy had lasted, what they were being seen by the doctor for, insurance forms, methods of payment, and several lab reports.
“We also discovered in the trash used syringes, ultrasound pictures of the babies, dozens of used drug vials, several used IV bags with the sharps still attached, bloody absorbent paper, open condom wrappers, used condoms, and bloody used laminaria.
“On our third trash investigation we also found bloody canulas and human tissue distinguishably not a baby, except this time we also discovered infant body parts, including arms, hands, legs, feet, a spine, a ribcage, and eyes.
“We estimate we found at least ten different infants. Each one was wrapped in a bloody gauze, tied at the end. Once you turned these inside out, you would find the infant parts.
“Each bloody gauze that was filled with an infant was wrapped in the absorbent paper used to cover the operating table which was soaked in blood, and used, bloody, latex gloves” (emphasis added).
God, have mercy!
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
God’s plan for Milissa and I took a sudden turn. She felt called to do pro-life work full-time, so she accepted a job in Dallas, Texas.
We moved up our wedding and got married on Leap Day 2008!
Needing to move to Texas quickly, we handed over our dumpster investigation to Dr. Miller. She and a couple friends raided his dumpster in the fourth week of our investigation.
Dr. Miller also discovered dumpster babies behind Hodari’s abortion clinic.
She then contacted the Lathrup Village Police Department, asking them to intervene. They brought the EPA out the next week to investigate Hodari’s dumpster.
We do not know if they too discovered aborted babies, but they did confirm they found “medical waste” and patient records. That proved at least a five-week pattern by Hodari’s abortion mill.
Below are photos Dr. Miller took of the aborted babies. She is a renowned photographer of victims of abortion, having had an article written about her in the New York Times.
Warning: the photos are graphic!
WHAT RESULTED?
Dr. Hodari would go on to tell the media he doubts “medical waste” was truly discovered. He also blamed a supposed new staff member for not disposing the medical records correctly.
What did the government do to this man and his clinic? You would think they would have shut it down, right?
No, rather they gave him a small fine and mandated he retrain his employees.
In other words, they gave this baby killer a slap on the wrist!
Dr. Miller would go on to arrange for the burial of these “Hodari Babies.” It was presided over by Bishop John Quinn, no less. Milissa was able to fly back to Michigan to participate in laying these babies to rest.
The story made national and international headlines. The Detroit News, the Detroit Free Press, the local TV news stations, and other local news entities picked it up. As well, FoxNews.com even ran an article about it. Outlets from other countries also ran the story.
