Have you ever thought of bringing our Lord, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament to your local abortion center?
Here’s a personal testimony from me as to how we made that happen. I hope it gives you courage to try to do it in your community.
The last day of the 2007 40 Days For Life campaign in Ann Arbor, Michigan served to be a memorable day.
The 40 Days For Life campaign had just “gone national” for the first time. This was the first such campaign to be held in Ann Arbor. We prayed outside the local Planned Parenthood in town.
We had a small committee of about 10 people helping us to organize the campaign.
I was falling in love with the campaign director. She committed herself to praying outside the abortion center every day. I knew, if I wanted to spend time with her, I would have to join her. So, I volunteered to be the event coordinator.
(I would go on to marry that campaign director some time later.)
WE BROUGHT THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
The final event we planned that campaign was a long prayer vigil.
First, we had Jesus Himself come, in the form of the Eucharist.
That’s right.
I was already a member of a young adult Eucharistic adoration group in Ann Arbor. The priest running the group offered to bring the Blessed Sacrament to the abortion center! We set up an area in the lawn in the public right of way next to the place of death.
The demons circling the abortion mill had to be shocked. Here came the Lord of lords!
And so in place of having benediction and adoration inside the school building at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, we did that outside the local Planned Parenthood.
Following that, we had a little cookout and had a couple public speakers address the couple hundred people who came.
Then we did a “Jericho March” around the abortion center seven times, in silence. All the while, we prayed for God to allow that facility to crumble to the ground, like He permitted Jericho to centuries prior.
The last hour of the campaign, we spent in silent prayer, lit up only by candle light. We begged God to close the death camp, in accordance with His will.
TAKE COURAGE
I am not sure how many other 40 Days For Life campaigns have succeeded in bringing the Blessed Sacrament to their local abortion center. I would encourage everyone to try to make this happen in their area. I can think of no other more powerful act we can do than to bring Jesus there, sacramentally present in the Eucharist.
I hope this serves as an encouragement to you to consider asking your local priests if one of them can bring the Blessed Sacrament to your local abortion mill. Tell them this has been done before!
As well, I would recommend doing a “Jericho March” around the abortion mill anytime as well. Obviously, do so in accordance with the law. Do not trespass on private property but stick to the public right of way. If it means you have to process around an entire city block, then so be it.
I hope these ideas can be of use to you in your efforts to prayerfully bring about the closing of your local abortion clinic.
