The naturalistic religion may not be a form of worship you have heard of before. Although you may not be familiar with the term for it, you have undoubtedly seen its religious practices in effect all around you.
Naturalism remains a philosophical worldview believing everything comes from nature, to the exclusion of any supernatural or spiritual explanations.
You may be more familiar with its pseudonym: Secular Humanism.
Western society took a while to warm up to this worldview, but has since embraced it wholeheartedly. For proof, think of these three examples:
Does anyone really bother to believe the Biblical account of the creation of the earth and particularly of mankind? Not if they want to be thought of as sane or rational. Instead, everyone is taught from their elementary years to accept without much examination the explanation from the naturalistic religion of the origin of life itself. That is, for no particular reason life arose out of stardust and supposedly evolved over the course of millions or billions of years into more complex life forms, until at last human beings arrived.
2. Attacks on Human Life
If we are nothing more than the product of random mutations, what value does our life really have? When human life has no intrinsic value, then who can claim abortion, euthanasia, eugenics, in vitro fertilization, or embryonic stem cell research cannot be practiced? Notice how the naturalistic religion has attacked life from both ends and has turned us into a utilitarian society.
3. Rejection of Biblical Beliefs
Hey, if the Bible’s first couple chapters are wrong about the origin of mankind, then why should anyone bother to believe any of its other contents? If the story of Creation is so far-fetched in the Book of Genesis, then why take seriously the claims of the Gospels or the New Testament about the founder of Christianity, Jesus Christ Himself? If there are no miracles, then there can be no Virgin Birth. If there was no Resurrection, then there is no point to the Christian faith.
“NATURALISM IS MORE THAN A HERESY”
I will leave you with a quote from Cardinal Pie of Poitiers (1815-1880), quoted from The Kingship of Christ and Organized Naturalism, by Father Denis Fahey:
“Naturalism is more than a heresy: it is pure undiluted anti-Christianism. Heresy denies one or more dogmas; Naturalism denies that there are any dogmas or that there can be any. Heresy alters more or less what God has revealed; Naturalism denies the very existence of revelation.
“It follows that the inevitable law and the obstinate passion of Naturalism is to dethrone Our Lord Jesus Christ and to drive him from the world. This will be the task of [the] Antichrist and it is Satan‘s ambition…
“The greatest obstacle to the salvation of the man of our day, as the Vatican Council [I] points out in the first Constitution on Doctrine, what hurls more people into hell nowadays than at any other epoch, is Rationalism and Naturalism…
“Naturalism strives with all his might to exclude our Lord Jesus Christ, Our One Master and Savior, from the minds of men as well as from the daily lives and habits of peoples, in order to set up the reign of reason or of nature. Now wherever the breath of naturalism has passed, the very source of Christian life is dried up. Naturalism means complete sterility in regard to salvation and eternal life” (pg 57-58, Dublin: Regina Publications, 1943, emphasis added).
What do you make of this assessment of the naturalistic religion?
Think it describes our present day?
