Reason 112 to quit porn addiction: face it, your porn addiction has left you lonely.
You used to be up for poker on Tuesday nights with your buddies. Not anymore.
You might have had the courage to buy that cute girl a drink. Now you just begin the slow retreat back to your mom’s basement.
Two seasons have passed now and your old bowling team has moved on without you. You couldn’t get back on the team if you wanted to.
But you don’t want to.
Your ambition to make something of your life dwindles each day you login to your computer to look at smut. That explains why it is difficult for you to even hold down a job.
Does this describe you or someone you know in any way?
I hope not. But all too often, this is the experience of many porn addicted men.
WHAT DOES LONELINESS LOOK LIKE FOR PORN ADDICTS?
Men view porn because, ultimately, they are seeking love. In an ironic twist, what they find instead is bitter loneliness.
You see, porn addiction leaves men isolated.
No, it is just easier to find fault in every woman he meets. That way he can excuse himself for not having the courage to ask any of them out to the coffee shop.
Any girlfriend the porn addict did have no longer measures up to his new fantastical standards. The models on his computer screen become his measuring stick for any woman he meets.
His girlfriend is just too emotional. She is too dramatic. She wants to talk about herself.
It gets to be too much for the self-absorbed, porn addict. Besides, her breast size isn’t the biggest. Her figure just doesn’t compare to a runway model’s.
She is just too much like a real woman to be worth the hassle anymore. So, she is expendable.
The hundreds of women he has viewed naked for the last few months and years don’t have expectations of him. They are there to please him. He expects this treatment from every woman he ever lays his eyes on.
The waitress at the restaurant becomes eye candy. Her figure gets rated in the porn addict’s mind.
The teller at the bank becomes objectified. He wonders what it would be like to sleep with her.
To have to get to know her, to impress her, to earn her trust, and ultimately to ask for her hand in marriage becomes an overwhelming thought process.
No, it is just easier to find fault in every woman he meets. That way he can excuse himself for not having the courage to ask any of them out to the coffee shop.
WHY DOES LONELINESS COME HAND IN HAND WITH PORN ADDICTION?
You see, pornography affects the brain in much the same way as hard drugs can. We all know people can become addicted to marijuana, cocaine, heroin, alcohol, and so forth. Pornography addiction can occur too and can be just as hard to root out.
Just like any addiction, those trapped by the vice of pornography display the usual behaviors.
The ones we are highlighting today include self-seclusion from the outside world. After all, if an addict is out facing the real world, then he’s not in feeding his addiction.
Demands from life like school, work, or a family come into conflict with the addict’s rearranged (or should be say deranged?) priorities. He often alienates those he is closest to. He is willing to lose his job. He likely falls behind in his schoolwork.
Other behaviors include telling lies in order to perpetuate the addiction. If someone asks why the addict missed a planned event, he may be willing to lie to cover up his addiction.
Liars don’t make good friends. Soon, not many people want to associate with the porn addict anyway.
The examples could go on and on.
IT’S TIME TO QUIT PORN ADDICTION
You can freely admit it to yourself. Be frank. Your loneliness is killing you. It is making you miserable.
Everyone wants to feel loved. Each person needs the warmth of friendship. But the porn addiction has left you cold, angry, and alone.
You want to keep up this cool, lone wolf persona… Until you realize your soul is howling at the moon in despair. Lone wolves howl out of loneliness, not out of a place of superiority or dominance.
You were made for so much more.
