In case you ever want to marry yourself, rest assured. Available to you is a “self wedding in a box.”
If you’re willing to pay $300, you can be provided wedding accessories including the following: a wedding dress, flowers, a wedding attendant, a public ceremony, and even registry for City Hall.
The only thing missing from this self wedding in a box, it seems, remains the wedding invitations. Oh, and that minor detail of a spouse of the opposite gender.
But hey, who needs one of those in this backwards world brought to you by the Culture of Death?
In case you think I am joking, I Married Me, who offers these self wedding in a box deals, has its own Facebook page.
THIS IS MORE POPULAR THAN YOU THINK
I wouldn’t call it a trend just yet, but “marrying” one’s self is gaining popularity. Timothy George, in an article for First Things, conveniently compiled a list of folks who have already tried pulling this stunt. Although both genders partake, this appears to be a more common choice among women.
This self wedding in a box serves as a symptom of a culture that has lost its moorings on Natural Law.
George writes, “Apparently Linda Baker was the first person to marry herself back in December 1993. Others have followed suit, including Sara Sharpe, who wrote about her self-marriage in A Dress, A Ring, Promises to Self.
“And there’s Nadine Schweigert, a thirty-six-year-old-woman from Fargo, North Dakota, who was interviewed by Anderson Cooper after marrying herself in front of some forty of her closest friends… Jennifer Hoes is a Dutch woman [did] the same thing in 2003. Her same-self marriage was the subject of a recent ten-minute documentary by Aeon Magazine.”
OF COURSE, NO LIBERAL IN THEIR RIGHT MIND COULD OBJECT TO SUCH IDIOCY
The liberal playbook remains to tear down every structure and foundation of human nature. The definition of marriage has been its latest victim in its bulldozing methods.
Gone are the days where the true definition of marriage would be recognized by society. In place of recognizing Holy Matrimony as exactly that—the making of a mother–the Culture of Death has reduced marriage to a matter of mere feelings.
Thus, who can object to those who wish to marry themselves?
After all, if that is what they deem to be emotionally fulfilling, then why not? In the end, isn’t that the purpose of society in the Culture of Death: to satisfy any and every feeling?
MADNESS SHALL REIGN
Of course, the idea that someone can marry themselves is complete garbage. Holy Matrimony is other-centered. It is a living sacrament of the bonds of charity.
Besides, what is love? Love is willing the good of the other person. Love is measured in sacrifice.
Moroever, Holy Matrimony remains a sign of God’s covenantal love with His crowning creation, mankind. (Malachi 2:14, cf Jeremiah 31:31-32) One cannot make a covenant with one’s self, as this self-marriage concept suggests.
Anyone buying and using a self wedding in a box is not on the path to fulfilling love. Instead, such a person cruises down the interstate of pride and narcissism.
This contraceptive culture we swim in nowadays has ushered in this self-marriage phenomenon. Contraception, by definition, seeks to prevent conception during the conjugal act. Once you separate sex from babies, you no longer have an argument against so-called “gay marriage,” fornication in general, and “self-marriage,” in this case.
This self wedding in a box serves as a symptom of a culture that has lost its moorings on Natural Law. The Natural Law says marriage needs to be between a man and a woman for the primary purpose of procreation. The Natural Law dictates the primary purpose of human sexuality is the complementarity of the sexes for the survival of the human race.
Anyone marrying themselves defies the Natural Law in order to satiate their egos. These types of people have no need to humble themselves by serving a spouse of the opposite gender in a true marriage. They are too in love with themselves to fathom placing anyone else’s needs ahead of their own.
That’s not a marriage. That’s madness.
