Birth control has become extremely pervasive. The effects have been devastating. The contraception impact factor would register a 10 on the Richter Scale. Let us explore why.
First, think of any person going hiking. He will take with him a compass. The intention is obvious.
Should he lose his way, he can check the compass to get his bearings. The North arrow points in the same direction every time.
When a society adopts contraception into its cultural fabric, it sends that arrow spinning. The correct direction becomes hard to decipher. It also does not remain constant.
For that matter, in a contraceptive society, just what exactly would North even be pointing toward?
Once birth control becomes mainstream in our populace, several moral pillars become damaged, or altogether lost. Let me name ten that come to mind.
1. THE MEANING OF SEX
As I have shared in the past, if the natural product of sexual intercourse (i.e., children) becomes separated from the sexual intercourse itself, then anything goes.
Sex actually has a primary purpose. No, it is not for the sexual gratification of its participants. Rather, sex is ordered toward having babies. This is just so plain to see that it’s amazing it needs any explanation.
Babies come from sex. The sexual organs are designed so as to get women pregnant.
No, sexual activity does not always have to produce a new human being. But when this possibility is intentionally blocked, as contraception intends, then the entire act ceases to be natural.
2. GENDER ROLES
Now that the meaning of sex has been distorted, then the differences between the two genders becomes nebulous. Why would there need to be males and females?
Put another way, if sex is merely for pleasure, why are both males and females necessary?
Does a foundational difference, such as women being capable of bearing children, no longer count for anything worth preserving in our society? Contraception proponents seem to say yes.
3. MUTUAL RESPECT AMONG THE SEXES
If sexual activity exists merely for sport, then the sexes can use each other. If no consequences follow promiscuity, then more is better.
As we have seen in the explosion of the pornography industry, men are willing to exploit women for sexual arousal. Women are willing to be taken advantage of for the illusion of acceptance and equality among men.
4. THE NECESSITY OF HAVING TWO PARENTS
Now the necessity of marriage has been forgotten. A majority of children are conceived out of wedlock.
If sex is to be enjoyed without kids, society has no answer to those who conceive without intending to. You messed up, tough luck for you.
Where marriage grants the mother a steady helper (i.e., a husband) in the home to help raise the children, society says this is not necessary. The importance of fathers has just been shattered.
5. THE MEANING OF MARRIAGE
Marriage was created divinely to be ordered around the procreation of children. Within the home, the husband and wife were to raise their children, teaching them virtue along the way.
Husbands were to discipline the children, protect the family, and provide for their needs.
Wives were to be the primary caretakers, offering support for the entire family.
If sex is merely for sport, and if children are to be avoided, then the meaning of husband and wife gets lost in the shuffle.
6. THE STABILITY OF THE FAMILY
Even if people still decide to get married, for what reason do they need to stay together?
If men and women can use each other, then why bother to try appeasing a sense of fidelity and permanence to a marriage?
Hey, things got hard here, so it is time for me to move on to something, or really someone, more enjoyable. The high divorce rate illustrates this.
This is hardly a recipe for stability for a society.
7. PROTECTION OF THE UNBORN
Again, if men and women are to have sex merely for pleasure, as contraception allows, then what happens if a baby is conceived?
Men can, and often do, walk away in those instances. The burden of caring for the child falls on the mother.
If she feels overwhelmed with the responsibility, then what?
It is not hard to see how abortion becomes the Plan B for birth control, if the latex, the jellies, or the pills didn’t do their job. When over 3,500 babies die a day in the US alone to abortion, you can see how prevalent this attitude is.
Also, if babies do not come from the loving conjugal act of a husband and wife, then does that mean life can be created elsewhere? To the in vitro fertilization industry, the answer is yes!
As well, many contraceptives also serve as abortifacients. This means they can cause early, chemical abortions.
8. PROTECTION OF THE ELDERLY
The elderly may seem to be unrelated to the sexual activities and birth control use of younger people. However, a connection can be made.
If a culture allows for the most innocent among us, the preborn children, to be discarded, then what protection does that afford anyone else? If children can be killed, then what stops anyone else from being murdered?
Case in point, the elderly. If children are thought of as leaches unworthy of keeping around, then the same argument can be made for any senior citizens. This is already playing out in our culture.
9. HONOR FOR THE HANDICAPPED
We all have a duty to protect the vulnerable among us. When contraception use enters the scene, this desire of ours gets trampled. If little children are unworthy of our protection, then so are handicapped people.
Why bother caring for them? Why not just get rid of them? These may seem like ridiculous questions, but when you realize over 90% of babies diagnosed with Down Syndrome in the womb are killed in utero, you can see this mentality runs rampant.
10. REMEMBERING WHO IS GOD
In the end, contraception usage tries to replace God, Who is the author of life.
Thanks for your input, Big Guy Upstairs, but we’ve got this one handled, say the birth control users. We know better than You who should be allowed to live.
What an arrogant attitude! We are only fooling ourselves.
And thanks to the the contraception impact factor, the moral compass is clearly busted.
