Music has a power over us, with the ability to touch our souls. Such a powerful medium, when harnessed for good, can be an instrument for edification. That is why I am happy to find pro-life songs.
I wanted to share with you my two favorite pro-life songs. I hope you will leave a comment saying which ones you enjoy a lot as well.
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE LOVED by MARK SCHULTZ
Years ago, when I still listened regularly to Contemporary Christian Music, I attended the nation’s largest, free Christian concert. The Christian radio station, KLTY here in Dallas claims to be the nation’s largest such station in the country. Around July 4th, they hold their annual Celebrate Freedom Concert.
Well, a few years back they brought in Mark Schultz as one of the performers. As part of his set, he sang “What It Means to be Loved.” That was the first time I heard the song and I found it emotional and memorable.
Here is a live performance of Mark Schultz singing the song.
Here are the lyrics:
For five months and eight days my wife and I had waited
Gettin’ ready for our baby girl
But when he called the doctor said I need to see you
And could you come in soon
Then something died inside of me to sit with him and hear
The tests that said our baby may not live to be a year
Then turnin’ to my wife and he said “whata you wanna do?”
And she said…
Chorus:
I wanna give her the world
I wanna hold her hand
I wanna be her mom for as long as I can
And I wanna live every moment until that day comes
I wanna show her what it means to be loved
So we spent each day, watchin’ every minute
And prayin’ for our baby girl
And I will not forget the way I felt that moment
When she came into this world
But they took her from the room just as soon as she was born
And watchin’ through a window I could see her holdin’ on
When a voice inside me said…
Chorus
I said every day
We’ve got to bring her home
She’s been out to prove the doctors wrong
Oh and you should see her now
She’s as pretty as her mom
And theres a boy at the front door waiting just to take her to her high school prom…
And he wants to give her the world
Wants to hold her hand
And someday she may get a wedding band
But she’s gonna live every moment until that day comes
And we’re gonna show her what it means to be loved
Oh yeah (what it means to be loved)
Show her what it means to be loved
What it means to be loved
THERE GOES MY LIFE by KENNY CHESNEY
I am not sure if there is a more popular singer in the country than Kenny Chesney. He has 56 singles, with 23 reaching Number One, as of November 2014. He has received numerous music awards, including four consecutive Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year Awards (2005 to 2008).
I got turned onto his music about nine or ten years ago. His pro-life song, “There Goes My Life,” has always been a favorite of mine. The song was Number One on the Billboard Top 40 for seven consecutive weeks, spanning the end of 2003 and the beginning of 2004.
Here is the official music video:
Here are the lyric to Kenny Chesney’s song:
All he could think about was I’m too young for this.
Got my whole life ahead.
Hell I’m just a kid myself.
How’m I gonna raise one.
All he could see were his dreams goin’ up in smoke.
So much for ditchin’ this town and hangin’ out on the coast.
Oh well, those plans are long gone.
Chorus:
And he said,
There goes my life.
There goes my future, my everything.
Might as well kiss it all good-bye.
There goes my life…
A couple years of up all night and a few thousand diapers later.
That mistake he thought he made covers up the refrigerator.
Oh yeah… he loves that little girl.
Momma’s waiting to tuck her in,
As she fumbles up those stairs.
She smiles back at him dragging that teddy bear.
Sleep tight, blue eyes and bouncin’ curls.
Chorus
She had that Honda loaded down.
With Abercrombie clothes and 15 pairs of shoes and his American Express.
He checked the oil and slammed the hood, said you’re good to go.
She hugged them both and headed off to the West Coast.
Chorus
There goes my life.
There goes my life.
Baby, good-bye.
